Knife Edge

"Writerly, metaphorical songs, the smooth, southern James Taylor-like vocals, the evocative acoustic guitar settings... a steady emotional current runs through each." - Mike Joyce, The Washington Post

The culmination of six years of extensive touring and intensive songwriting, Knife Edge is both subtle and fierce, capturing the energy, passion and blues-soaked soul of Brooks Williams' live concerts: breathtaking acoustic and bottleneck slide guitar playing, passionae vocals and resounding songs. The Statesboro, Georgia native has developed his signature guitar sound from a myriad of influences: British fingerstyle, Delta slide, Hawaiian slack key, Bahamian calypso, and Piedmont blues. Williams moves easily from acoustic rockers to stinging slide guitar instrumentals to Joseph Spence-like melodicism. His songs face the dark, taking a sober look at life, death, longing and love; his lyrics express the thoughts, emotions, introspection and reflections of a soul-bearer. Knife Edge was produced by Toronto guitar great Colin Linden and was recorded in Canada at Grant Avenue Studio with a fantastic cast of supporting musicians, including Richard Bell (keyboards), Kristin Kunhart (vocals), Hugh Marsh (violin), and producer Linden (guitar).
