Borderline

Frazier recorded the 80’s classic, “Borderline,” with the band Love Canon in Virginia with Stuart Duncan playing fiddle. And yes, it’s Madonna’s “Borderline,” which speaks to love taken to the edge. With Rebecca’s unique flatpicking appended to the track, the driving instrumentation brings the song into a whole new realm. “I remember hearing this song on the car radio when I was a little kid,” Rebecca says. “Madonna made a huge impression on me and lots of young girls; she was a symbol of self-power. As an adult, I revisited the song and realized how beautiful the composition is. I love the interplay with the melody and harmony, and the chord changes speak to me.”

Love Canon—a Charlottesville supergroup which specializes in complex acoustic versions of 80’s hits—was a natural fit for Rebecca’s vision for the song. Rebecca muses, “I’ve been a Love Canon fan for a decade now, and I was thrilled when they agreed to cut this song with me. It was a thrill to hash out arrangement ideas with them, and I brought in some flatpicking ideas for an instrumental solo section."
Stuart Duncan’s captivating fiddling on the track adds to the dance feel of the song, while Jay Starling of Leftover Salmon and Love Canon contributes dynamic, fluid Dobro styling. Shelby Means, Adam Chaffins, and Andrea Zonn provide powerful harmony vocals.

“An album of wonderful songs with well thought-out arrangements, expertly played with beautiful, soaring vocals. Rebecca, that’s a winner!” —Sam Bush

"Rebecca Frazier is an important voice among the group of women whose musical talents and creative visions are recasting bluegrass. A triple threat, she sings, plays and writes with fire and grace and her new record is not to be missed.” —Alison Brown
