Waltz With Me was born when Annbjørg Lien, one of Norway’s most accomplished musicians, was commissioned last year to compose new music for the prestigious Telemark Festival in Bø, Norway. She responded by first assembling a quartet that included herself on Hardanger fiddle, Bruce Molsky on violin and vocals, Christine Hanson on cello and Mikael Marin on viola. She then wrote (with their varied skills and musical backgrounds in mind) a varied and beautiful set of tradition-based tunes and songs that reflect her eclectic attitude towards the musical style. The strong chemistry between the members of the group was apparent within the first five minutes, and the concert in Bø turned out to be a huge success and a wonderful experience for the musicians and audience alike. Soon after, the group went into the studio and recorded these pieces.
Waltz With Me unites four internationally respected musicians and their fascinating traditions in a genre-transcending musical melting pot.
