A Celebration of 50 Years

County Clare's multi-award winning Tulla Ceili Band was formed 50 years ago to compete in the Feile Luimni at St. Johns Pavilion in Limerick City. Needless to say, they won, and for the five decades since have provided Ireland and the world with music of natural warmth, conviviality, and distinction. The Tulla Ceili Band has always stayed true to their vision, even as other bands gave in to prevailing popular trends, and Green Linnet is proud to present this legendary ensemble's A Celebration of 50 Years. Produced by Irish fiddle phenom Martin Hayes (who, along with his father and founding member P.J. Hayes, is also one of the four fiddlers in the band), the album was recorded not in a studio but in Peppers Pub in Feakle, County Clare, in an atmosphere perfectly conducive to the music. The result is a vibrant celebration of The Tulla Ceili Bands power and lasting legacy: a studied yet spontaneous blending of new tunes and selections from the popular repertoire of the band's fabled history, played with impressive rhythmic prowess, inspired fiddling, and rollicking flutes and accordions. The Tulla Ceili Band's 50th Anniversary recording is also, as Martin Hayes writes in the liner notes, "a thank you to all the people who have been involved as musicians, listeners, dancers, and those who have helped in other ways. It is a celebration of people, place, and music."
