Walking on the Moon

After two acclaimed albums of bluegrass-laced acoustic explorations, and on the heels of an extended stint with jamgrass titans Leftover Salmon, award-winning mandolinist Matt Flinner finds a striking new framework for his formidable instrumental, compositional, and improvisational gifts on Walking on the Moon. Fusing elements of jazz, funk, and bluegrass into an accessible yet original hybrid, The Matt Flinner Quartet is the rare band that plays with all the power of an electric outfit, while retaining the sensitivity and empathy of the finest acoustic jazz and bluegrass groups. Features eight original compositions by Flinner, guitarist Gawain Mathews (of the Tony Furtado Band) and bassist Sam Bevan (recently seen filling in with the David Grisman Quartet) alongside versions of the jazz standard "Caravan" and the Police’s classic "Walking on the Moon." Drummer Aaron Johnson (Anger-Marshall Band) rounds out this exciting and bold new ensemble.

"Flinner provides the next logical evolutionary step to David Grisman’s unique dawg style, and does it with a nod to the past and a vision of the future." --Bluegrass Now
